Starting from 20th Dec 2023, ID card is not required if the passports owner is collecting the passport.
However, if the owners previous passport is still valid, it will be required. It is no longer mandatory to provide expired passports at the time of collection.
A non-electronic passport for children under the age of 18 will be issued to their Parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must provide a valid ID card/ID photo, passport or licence card for collection.
Non-electronic & emergency passports can be issued to a third party under the below mentioned circumstances:
A third party can only collect the passport with a collection letter. A draft of the letter is available at: https://imuga.mv/rexq22
For third-party collection, please bring a valid ID card/ID photo, passport or license card.
Note: If the passport holder or parent resides on an island and is unable to collect is for a legitimate reason, a third-party collection letter must be emailed via the council office to passports@immigration.gov.mv
